Excel dashboard can be a great tool for HR dashboard reporting. For those who want to play with Excel – this spreadsheet application offers many ways to organize your reports. In addition there are many excel dashboard templates that can be used right away by simply entering your HR metrics and numbers and your reports are ready to be used.

However regardless of whether you will use ready-to-use excel templates or you will invest time to develop one from scratch – the first step (also the most important stage in the process) is for you to define and identify the most appropriate HR KPIs for your organization. These Human Resource metrics or drivers impact the entire organizational performance so what metrics you’ll use will have a huge impact on the decision making, performance results and management in general.

Start with your organizational and HR mission and describe at the very general level what you are trying to achieve. Create a simple strategy map which shows the relation between cause and effect in order to achieve the desired results. Identify your top 5 KPIs and additionally define the top 15-20 metrics which drive the top KPIs. Now you have the structure of your reporting requirements.

Next, define how you’ll capture and gather the required data for those metrics. Use a simple table and for each metrics assign the owner and the responsible person for delivering the data every period (your frequency depends on your requirements) – regardless of whether the report update frequency is daily, weekly, monthly or quarterly. At this point you have the entire reporting management strategy and it is time for starting the design and creation of your excel HR dashboard. Excel is frequently used for KPI dashboard reporting and it is a very flexible platform and easy to use application.
